San José City Tour

Today was hard because I'm feeling a lot of homesickness. I can't pinpoint a reason, which frustrates me further. It could have been that I watched a clip of Dr. Oz with Mama Tica this morning, and it reminded me of when my mom and I used to watch it during summer vacations. Or that I listened to Billy Joel, who is one of my dad's and my favorite artists. No matter what it is, I was really overwhelmed and on the verge of tears for a majority of the day.

I did enjoy that we got to go to San José, the capital city of Costa Rica. It's only 12 km away from Heredia, and we headed for the Central Market there, as well as an Artisan Market of Indigenous People. After an hour-long scavenger hunt to become acquainted with the general size and location of the market, we walked by the National Theatre of Costa Rica. We learned that San José was the third city in the whole world to acquire electricity, behind Paris, France, and New York City.

We then went to one of the artisan markets, which had a museum-like display on one side of the building which featured the 8 indigenous tribes of Costa Rica. They were interesting to hear about, and the young pair of Ticos there were excited to talk about the items that were for sale, as well as our experience so far in Costa Rica.

Hannah and I are already planning a trip back to the city to do some more exploring of the central market.
