Going to the Movie Theater

Tonight I'm going to the movies with a couple of other SOLmates. We're going to see The Jungle Book (El Libro de la Selva in Spanish). The interesting thing about going to the movies here is that not only do they always have options in 2D and 3D, but you can also choose if you want the movie in English with Spanish subtitles, dubbed in Spanish with English subtitles, or dubbed in Spanish without any subtitles. How cool is that?! I didn't even think about the variety of ways that movies would be shown in the theater. Costa Rica has enough tourism that it needs the English, and/or enough natives learning English that they can challenge themselves at different levels.

The movie was very well done! I hadn't seen the original cartoon version, but I had heard some of the songs. Not to give away any spoilers, but I thought it was cool that the only actual human actor was Mowgli. The rest of the characters were animations that were done very well. For being a family show, it did have a little bit of violence in it, but not enough that I cringed. And it doesn't take a lot for me to cringe.

Tía Sandra had given me some coupons to use at the theater, but otherwise it's probably about the same price as at home. The theater here does have a cool promotion every Wednesday where all tickets are half-priced. Pretty neat!
