A Tico-Style Birthday

Today for my birthday, Mama Tica and Jorge had birthday music playing as we went downstairs for breakfast. She gave me a box of chocolates and a cute note where she wrote things about me for every letter in my name. She said that Jorge was making us a special lunch today, and we needed to come home hungry.

During our break in class today, the SOLmates sung Happy Birthday (in English and Spanish) so I could blow out the candles on a delicious cake. In typical Latino fashion, I got frosting smeared on my face by someone. Anytime a Tico asks how old one of us is, we tell them, and they react saying that we're so young. Side note: this was still the case when Mamá Tica's 18-year-old niece asked how old we were a few weeks ago.

We got home for lunch, and Jorge can really cook! He made us stuffed squash with hollandaise sauce, and chicken breast filled with ham and cheese. I couldn't finish everything, but there was another cake that Mamá Tica got for me and decorated with grapes, marshmallows, coconut shavings, and a delicious cream.

I got messages from my parents, grandparents, and even some students from my mom's class. Today was one of the best birthdays I've ever had. I feel so loved. (:
