Semana Santa (Holy Week) is coming up, and it is celebrated much differently here than in the US. For starters, we have the whole week off of classes. We're considering it like a spring break, and our program is set up so that the week lands after we finish our Civilization Class and before we start Latin American Literature.
The Ticos generally hit the road for the beach this week, according to almost every Tico I ask. So I started looking into places that I want to go for a vacation. Plot twist: MY PARENTS ARE COMING TO SEE ME FOR SEMANA SANTA!!!!!! I'm so excited to show them some of the things that I've done, and for them to meet Mama Tica! And see Heredia! The excitement is real.
So what we're planning on doing is going down to Manuel Antonio (the town where I celebrated my birthday) and stay in a fancy hotel, go to the beach, see the National Park, and maybe do some ziplining or rafting. Many of the other SOLmates are going to Panama or farther parts of Costa Rica that it would be hard to get to during a regular week. I'm so excited. To see my parents, to have a break from class, and to go to the beach, of course.
