Cami Moves in Next Door

Cami is one of our SOLmates. She's super chill and fun to talk to. When we first got here, she lived in La Esperanza ('Hope'), the other neighborhood where SOLmates live. She told me that her family was really nice, and she really loved hanging out with her Tico brothers; she only has sisters at home. While we were in Nicaragua, she told me that two days before Cami got to her house, her Mama Tica had gotten a divorce. She has been having a hard time, and everyone decided that it would be best for both Cami and the family to have her live with a different host family.

So last Friday, she moved in next door! We have to SOLmate vecinas (neighbors) already, Tara and Kaleigh, and they were excited to have another roommate. So now we have a group of 5 SOLmates that walk to school in the morning!

Before this, I didn't even think to consider the lives of the families before we got there. I mean, I didn't think that every family was going to be picture perfect, but I didn't realize that a family would still take in a student when something like this happened so recently. It's really nice that SOL has such good relationships with Tico families that this was a pretty easy transition. Cami says that she'll miss hanging out with her Tico brothers, but she still texts them to play soccer once in a while.
