Jon and Pastor

Mama Tica has sometimes had her pastor come and visit so they can chat, and we had the pleasure of meeting him before. He's a very down to earth guy, and I enjoy visiting with him. The first time we met him, we talked about a lot of things, ranging from what we've seen in Costa Rica to whether or not we had boyfriends to differences in cat calling in the US versus here.

Pastor does a lot of work with a foundation helping people in the street getting cleaned up from drugs, getting food and a job, and helping them get their lives together. Hearing him talk about it makes my heart really happy. A SOLmate of ours, Jon, wants to make a documentary about poverty, and so he was invited over to our house to chat with Pastor about the video, and of course the foundation.

I had plenty of work to do for my final project the next day, so I stayed in the dining room while they chatted and worked while they talked. Jon mentioned that he not only wanted to address the problem of poverty, but now he also wanted to show some kind of solution. Pastor enjoyed the idea, and they chatted a little more about where Jon came from and his background, and ate fresh empanadas that Mama Tica made that afternoon. By the end of the afternoon, Jon was invited to the country club to chat with some of the people that Pastor had helped. I really love how out-of-the-way Ticos go to help us. I definitely want to bring that aspect of this culture back home with me.
