A Storm in the Dry Season

Tonight during dinner, it started to storm. Not nearly as hard as when we were in Punta Mona, but it was definitely strange for a Costa Rican summer. Mama Tica was really surprised when she looked out the window and it was more than pelo de gato. Mati was outside, and he came in with damp and dirty paws. She said that she'd have to wipe them off, otherwise she wouldn't let Mati up on the bed that night.
Not realizing what would happen, we left the door to the balcony and the window open through the night as we had for the whole week before. We woke up and immediately knew that was a mistake. We didn't know beforehand that there is a river behind the house. And with a river in the summer plus a storm, and throw in open windows, and you have Hannah and me covered in mosquito bites the next morning; we were the midnight snack for several of them.
Luckily mine didn't get very big, and I'm getting better at not itching them. Hannah didn't have the same luck that I did. Her bites swelled up so much that we weren't even sure that they were mosquito bites. What's more, they got really warm, and they covered her arms. She had a few on her face, and she was miserable. When the SOLmates saw them, some of them thought that they were spider bites or even from bed bugs. While we're itchy for now, I'm happy that it's nothing more than mosquitoes, and neither of us felt feverish at all. We definitely learned our lesson.
