Familia Tica Fiesta
Today several members of Mama Tica's family are coming over to celebrate two birthdays: one for her brother Jonny, and one for a cousin (or nephew, I can't quite remember) Carlos. Since Hannah was at Manuel Antonio for the weekend, I was kind of on my own as far as gringas go. I was preparing myself to be completely exhausted, but in a good way, because I really did want to meet more of Mama Tica's family. This was definitely a good way to do it.
Altogether, Mama Tica has nine siblings. At this point, I have met only five of them. Three of the five I already know will not be coming. Plus more relatives and kids and things. Times like this make me glad that I remember names, and I can remember who goes with what family, etc. Also joining is will be Andrés, our hermano Tico, and Ali, Jorge's granddaughter. She loves playing with the little ones, and Mama Tica brings her to Puriscal (Mama Tica's hometown. More on that later.) quite often.
The party was actually really fun! I only had to retreat for an "introvert break" twice in the 5 hours of the party! I had a really nice chat with one of Mama Tica's sisters (I'm going to refer to them as Tía/Tío from now on), Silvia, and also with Tío Roger. There were two babies there (under the age of 2), and Ali and I played soccer with them. Or at least as much as little ones can do. We grilled out in the rancho, sang, had cake, soda and tea, and chatted a whole bunch. Before she left, our Abuelita asked me when we'd be coming to Puriscal, and with a parting hug, I told her soon. This family is so welcoming, and it's easy to feel the love filling the house. I definitely want to share that kind of warmth when I get home.
