La Fortuna

Today we're leaving for our last excursion organized by SOL. We're heading into the nearby province Alajuela to swim in a waterfall called La Fortuna ('luck' or 'fortune'). It's about 2 1/2 hours away, so we get some more time on a brand new bus. When we get there, it is suddenly really humid, and we change into our swimming suits before we head down to the water.

I don't know if I've gone down so many stairs at once. By the time that we get to the big rocks near the edge of the fall, my legs are shaking, and most of us are sweaty. Before we go in, a lifeguard tells us that we have to stay to the right of the waterfall, and that we can't try to swim underneath. The current from the falling stream was very strong, and it could be potentially dangerous.

The cold water was so refreshing! We swam around for a little bit, and then headed to a different part of the outgoing river so that we could just stand in the water instead of working to stay in one place. There were several fish in the second pool, and quite a few SOLmates had their GoPros with them to take some underwater footage. Another SOLmate and I decide that we're about done, and we get out of the water and grab some lunch. We finish in a few minutes and get a head start back up the stairs. We get into dry clothes and hop back on the bus so that we can get to our hotel on time.
