Los Lagos Resort and Canopy Tour
Our hotel (actually a really fancy resort) is built right next to an active volcano. The heat from Volcano Arenal ('sandy') actually warms several of the pools and hot springs! We get to our rooms and change into our swimming suits again so that we can spend some time swimming. There are several slides that we go on, and we also check out the hot springs and wet bar. Before long it's time for a buffet dinner. Stuffed and happy, I am ready to settle down for the night.
We get up and get ready for breakfast, and check out the mariposario and other exhibits that the resort has. We see crocodiles, turtles, frogs, and ants. We gather our things to check out of the hotel, and we head for our canopy tour. We get all of our gear on, listen to safety instructions, and we are ready to zipline. They ask who wanted to be the first one, and I found myself speaking up and heading out first! I headed out on the line, and it was incredible. The view and the light feeling of a breeze on my face make me forget that I was ever nervous about doing this.
There are 12 cables total, including a Tarzan Swing and Superman 'flight'. For the Tarzan Swing, they literally strap you onto a cable that is hanging from a tree and push you off the edge. Making sure that you have your knees tucked was the key, and everyone in our group did it. The Superman line was the longest and highest cable that they have. There are different harnesses that we use for that one so that we can be suspended horizontally and parallel to the cable. The 'flight' was definitely not long enough. I would go again in a heartbeat.
After a late lunch around 2:30, we head back home. If (when) I come back to Costa Rica, I am going back to San Luis Canopy Tours. The feeling is indescribable.
