To Puriscal!
Since we got here, Mamá Tica has wanted to take us to Puriscal, her hometown. When we told her that we had long weekends in our fourth module, she got excited that we could take a day trip or maybe even stay overnight there to see where she grew up. When Tía got sick, we started to play it by ear to see if we could make it. We were lucky enough to be able to go today! We ate breakfast, picked up Ali, and headed out toward San José. Although Puriscal doesn't look too far away on a map, it takes about an hour to get there. We made a stop at PriceSmart to pick up a few things for Abuelita, and we were on our way.
We made one more stop an an indigenous art stand, and they had some cool stuff there too. Ali and I were having trouble sitting still for the ride, her because she's 4, and me because of a bruised tailbone that has resurfaced. I was grateful for the quick stop. We got to Abuelita's house right around noon. There was a women's soccer game going on, so after saying quick hellos to everyone that was there (and there were quite a few people in the house already), Hannah and I each took a hand of Ali's and headed for the stadium. We were there long enough to see a goal scored by Puriscal and find a small basketball court that Ali wanted to bring a soccer ball to. Not knowing if that would be okay, we decided it was time to head back to the house to see if lunch was ready.
It was, and after eating chop suey with Mamá Tica and Tío Alex, a little bit of soccer with Ali and one of the babies that was at the birthday party a couple of weeks ago, we headed upstairs for a nap. It was hot, we were full, and that always calls for a short siesta. Before long, it was time to take Ali home, but we promised her that we could stop for ice cream first. I was surprised that Ali didn't fall asleep during either of the car rides today, but I'm sure it was because she was too excited. I'm excited too, but more so because I wasn't sure if I was going to be able to see Puriscal before we left. We were able to, and it really makes my heart happy.
